Catheter Lysis of Thromboembolic Stroke (CLOTS) provides a unique educational opportunity for all those participating in acute stroke care, including both the interventionalist and non-interventionalist alike. The lectures and workshops will provide all attendees, including both established physicians and those in training, with the unique opportunity to review, observe and discuss all aspects of acute stroke management in an academically rigorous, yet friendly, small group setting.
Appropriate patient selection is emphasized throughout the entire course. Extensive case presentations throughout the week are highlighted with workshops every evening that include training in clinical neurological exams and NIHSS certification, hands-on personal training on CT perfusion workstations and hands-on full-scale training on vascular flow models utilizing real sheaths, guide catheters, microcatheters and clot retrievers from groin to brain. Multiple computer simulators will also be available for practice. While non-interventionalists will not be required to participate in the hands-on catheter-based workshops, they are welcome to observe and handle the equipment during scheduled times outside of the required workshops to better understand the function and physical limitations of the various catheters and devices implemented.
In addition to the reduced fee for all fellows-in-training, a reduced fee is available for certain non-interventional physicians who do not participate in the hands-on workshops by calling the Society of Interventional Radiology office at (703) 691-1805. Due to the intensity of the hands-on workshops, attendance is limited and all are encouraged to enroll early.

Percutaneous, minimally invasive techniques are increasingly important in the management of solid organ malignancies. Concepts regarding patient selection, best approaches, potential synergies and sequencing of adjuvant therapy are rapidly evolving.
Transarterial brachytherapy represents one of the newest breakthrough therapeutic approaches. While in some ways the delivery is similar to existing transarterial therapies, expert practice also requires mastery of relevant aspects of radiation biology, dosimetry, radiation safety, embolotherapy and clinical office management. One must understand the role of this agent in the context of available alternatives and emerging surgical and medical treatment strategies. With growing validation of the efficacy of these treatments, it is incumbent upon interventional radiologists interested in leading yttrium-90 treatment teams to ensure that they are adequately prepared.
This three and a half-day didactic course, designed with lectures, panel discussions, teaching files, case scenarios and hands-on interaction with flow models, will offer the most in depth, comprehensive and challenging curriculum available for clinical teams interested in initiating or developing their practice in this exciting aspect of interventional oncology.
This intensive course incorporates the requisite training and testing for official SIR validation of the IR attendee as qualified to apply for Authorized User (AU) status for intra-arterial yttrium-90 in the treatment of hepatic malignancies.
